Platelet rich plasma (PRP) can be used to treat hair loss. The simple process starts with a standard blood draw. The tubes of blood are then placed into a centrifuge to spin the blood to separate the plasma and red blood cells. The platelet rich plasma is then injected into the scalp at the hair follicle level. Poor candidates include patients on blood thinners, heavy smokers, history of alcohol or drug misuse, acute/chronic infections, cancer, chronic liver disease, hemodynamic instability, hypofibrinogenemia, metabolic disorder, sepsis, low platelet count, thyroid disease, blood disorders, anticoagulation therapy.
